Sydney Cricket Ground to visit Orange
The SCG XI will take on the Orange District Association in a twenty-over gala cricket match on Friday, March 22 at Wade Park as part of an annual program run by the Sydney Cricket and Sports Grounds to bring the magic of the SCG to country areas.
Former Australian cricket representatives and SCG Trustees will be present with Stuart MacGill leading the SCG XI on the field, and David Gilbert will join SCG Country members on the sideline.
SCG General Manager - Membership, Marketing and ICT, Jane Coles said regional visits offered the chance to connect with the SCG’s many country members.
“Nearly a quarter of the SCG’s membership lives outside of Sydney, with the top three regional areas the Central West, Bowral and Newcastle,” Ms Coles said.
In 2018, the Sydney Cricket Ground visited Dubbo and received a great response.
“It’s our way of thanking our members for their long-time commitment to the SCG and using the event as a chance to support their local communities.”
Orange has a special connection with the SCG being the birthplace of Australian poet, Andrew Barton ‘Banjo’ Paterson. ‘Banjo’ watched cricket from the SCG’s famous Hill and later became an SCG member.
He is reported to have once uttered on ABC Radio, “Breathes there a man with soul so dead that he never heard of the Sydney Cricket Ground?”
