Record T20 Crowd for SCG
Sunday 25th November, saw a record crowd for a T20 International, roll in the gates of the Sydney Cricket Ground reaching an astounding 37,399 patrons. Indian ex-patriates and Australian-born India supporters had a clear majority of the sold-out crowd, forming a sea of blue.
The deafening chants of “India, India, India,’’ were heard all the way from the SCG to Surry Hills, on Sunday night. Their sea of blue that cheered every run, was only rivalled by the chants that welcomed Kohli out to the middle. Whoever you support, a crowd as memorable and enthusiastic as this, is only a good thing for the game.
Mitchell Starc received an early taste of this astounding Indian support, during the third and final Twenty20 on Sunday evening. He told Fox Cricket the team won’t be surprised as they are expecting it to be much the same, throughout the Summer.
India’s superb opener Shikhar Dhawan praised the home-like support from the Indian-adoring crowd. He told Fox Sports “It’s tremendous to see the Indian support out there ... it’s lovely and I’m sure that all the India supporters out there will support us in Test cricket as well.”
His teammates mentioned it “definitely” felt like they were playing at home and spoke positively of the strong support and how it boosted his side to a series-saving win.
It would be a surprise if Kohli’s supporters were lacking in their vocal support, at any point over the next two months.
