NRL: Sydney Roosters v Newcastle Knights

This particular fixture has become one of the most anticipated clashes of the year since several high-profile former Roosters headed up the highway to become Knights.

Mitchell Pearce, Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Aidan Guerra all won premierships with the tri-colours but now call Newcastle home, adding plenty of feeling to this important match-up. 

Roosters halfback Cooper Cronk will rise to the challenge as he goes head-to-head with the man he usurped at Bondi Junction, Mitchell Pearce, and is aware the Knights will hold nothing back in their search for victory.

Inspirational hard-man Jarrod Waerea-Hargreaves will have his hands full with new Newcastle recruit David Klemmer in a must-watch battle of the forwards, while Kalyn Ponga trading blows with James Tedesco from the respective fullback positions will be something to watch.

Saturday afternoon footy returns to the Sydney Cricket Ground and a massive crowd is expected to pour in to the historic surrounds.

Leave the car at home and head in to the SCG precinct for some lunch or a wander around the grounds before taking your seat.

Plenty of public transport is available and the ground is a short stroll from Central Railway Station.

For the Sydney Roosters v Newcastle Knights match, the Members Pavilion will activate a pop up Butchers Block station and cash bar for members.

Open from SCG Members gates until half time, the Butchers Block station features slow cooked MSA grade aged beef (Riverina, NSW). Served on a Ciabatta baguette with celeriac slaw, Pepe Saya butter and accompanied by a selection of premium Tracklements sauces and relishes, saltbush and native thyme seasoning. Vegetarian guests will be able to enjoy a sweet potato, corn and manchego empanada with chipotle aioli.

A range of premium wines, beers, spirits, soft drinks and sparkling water will be available on a cash basis on the day.

No bookings are required.
