AFL: Sydney Swans v Greater Western Sydney Giants

The Sydney Swans are still stinging from a finals flogging and this local derby will need no build-up.

Sydney took two-from-two in the regular season derby stakes in 2018, but when it counted most in September last year the GWS Giants blew their well-respected cross-town rival off the park.

GWS are well versed in their trips to the SCG and this match has become the showcase event for AFL in Sydney.

Toby Greene, Jeremy Cameron and Heath Shaw will lead their youthful bunch in to the historic surrounds of the SCG and waiting for them will be an eager bunch of celebrated Swans stars keen for redemption.

Lance Franklin and Jarrod McVeigh are crafting their powerhouse roster in search of another finals tilt in 2019 and coach John Longmire is expecting big things from some of his young guns.

Oliver Florent had a breakout year in 2018 playing every one of the Swans 23 matches and the speedy midfielder will be keen to stamp his authority as one of the most exciting prospects in the AFL.

The Swans faithful will be out in force and huge crowds are expected to travel from the west for this Saturday night blockbuster.
