Tigers trio help Australia win World T20 trophy
Sydney Cricket Club players Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry and Rachael Haynes have had a stellar tournament securing the World T20 trophy for Australia. This is the fourth time the Australian Women’s Team have won the World T20 trophy after defeating England by 8 wickets in the final at Sir Vivian Richards stadium in Antigua.
Australia produced their performance of the tournament bowling England out for a total of 105 from 19.4 overs with Perry claiming 1-23. The run-chase was never in doubt following solid contributions from Healy (22), Ash Gardner (33*) and skipper Meg Lanning (28*) achieving the total comfortably in 15.1 overs.
Tigers and Australian wicket keeper Alyssa Healy was named Player of the Tournament after top-scoring with 225 runs at an average of 56.25. Not even a concussion against India could slow her down as she led from the front at the top of the order as well as capturing 8 dismissals throughout the entire tournament.
Ellyse Perry and Rachael Haynes also both had a strong tournament producing solid performances throughout the fixtures. Perry led the bowlers taking 9 wickets across the 5 innings with none more important than Dottin in the semi-final and form English batsmen Natalie Sciver. Rachael Haynes was her consistent best in the middle returning 4 not outs in her total of 5 innings. Haynes played a variety of roles both scoring quick late order runs or guiding Australia over the line in crucial periods.
Overall it was a successful tournament for Australia and our Tigers. On behalf of the Sydney Cricket Club congratulations to the players and we look forward to when they can don the formidable Tigers colours.
