Sherriff named the first Sir Ron Brierley Scholar
Thanks to the generosity of Sir Ron Brierley, SCG is pleased to announce the first Sir Ron Brierley Scholarship to current Sydney Cricket Club first grade player, Hugh Sherriff.
Sir Ron Brierley is a New Zealand investor, former Trustee of the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust and an avid cricket fan. In 1961 he founded R.A. Brierley Investments, by 1984 his company was the largest in New Zealand by market capitalisation. Sir Ron was made a Knight Bachelor in 1988 for his services to business management and the community.
The Sir Ron Brierley Scholarship will aim to improve the participation of country/regional players through better access to coaching and cricket facilities; reward and recognise players for their contribution to SCG Cricket; and assist in providing touring opportunities for nominated SCG Cricket Members.
SCG Cricket is pleased to announce Hugh Sherriff as the first Sir Ron Brierley Scholarship recipient. Hugh is current first grade player for Sydney Cricket Club, represented Australia Under 16s, Cricket Australia XI Under 17s and NSW Under 17s. The Sir Ron Brierley Scholarship will assist Hugh with his off-season academy trip to Barbados.
Whilst in Barbados, Hugh will play several matches against a variety of opponents, testing his skills against some of the best Barbadian players and learning to play in different conditions. This is a fantastic opportunity for Hugh to develop his cricket and come back a better player.
