Green Shield off to flying undefeated start
The young Green Shield Tiger cubs head into the Christmas break undefeated, with three wins from as many games.
Round 1 at Drummoyne Oval saw the young Green Shield squad began their campaign with a dominant bonus point victory against UNSW. After winning the toss and batting first, the Tigers amassed 9/217 at the conclusion of their 50 overs. Stylish left-handed opening batsman Seamus Meaker led the way, top scoring with 70. Seamus was well supported by Lachie Ball (45) and Ellis Sherriff (31) throughout the innings. In reply, the Tigers dominated from the outset and never let the opposition settle into the innings. Young quicks Joe Lister, Max Zanni and Darcy Mooney each picked up 2 wickets, as all the bowlers did their job throughout the bowling innings. A great way to kick off the competition for the young Tiger cubs, with two more home fixtures to come before the Christmas break.
Round 2 saw the Tigers again dominate against Mosman at Goodard Park. Bowling first, the young cubs dismissed the opposition for 159 thanks largely to James Threlkeld's 4/19. Fellow quick Joe Lister chipped in with 2/20 in what was a tidy performance by a rampant bowling unit. In reply, the Tigers reached the target 3 wickets down, with opener Seamus Meaker (31) continuing his good form, whilst fellow opener Kshitij Cyril (47) fell just short of a half-century. Skipper Lachie Shaw ensured his side got over the line with a classy 41no. A great result from the young squad in the first two rounds.
Round 3 saw the squad return to Drummoyne Oval against Fairfield-Liverpool for another bonus point victory. After bowling first, the Tigers dismissed their opponents for 121, with quick Kshitij Cyril claiming 3/15 and Darcy Mooney and James Threlkeld each taking 2 wickets each. Captain Lachie Shaw ensured a bonus point was secured with a quick fire 61no, whilst Josh Yeoh (35no) contributed towards a valuable partnership with the skipper.
A cracking start to the competition for the Green Shield squad sees the young side sit 1st on the ladder heading into the Christmas break!
