Churchland ton springboards Tigers into finals
The Women's T20 squad have cemented a finals birth thanks to two big wins at Ryde Oval on Sunday, with Kira Churchland launching a century in the afternoon fixture.
The morning fixture saw the Tigers sent in to bat and reach 8/94 at the conclusion of their 20 overs against Bankstown Sports. The low total in the end was enough for the Tigers to defend thanks to an outstanding bowling performance. Sripali Weerakkody led from the front with 1/7 off 4 overs, including a maiden. Nell Bryson-Smith did the job with the ball through the middle overs returning figures of 1/6 off 3 overs, also including a maiden. A fantastic effort in the field and with the ball ensured the Tigers claimed the much needed victory.
The afternoon fixture against Campbelltown-Camden was dominated by Kira Churchland. On her return for the Tigers, Churchland smashed 100no off just 46 balls, which included 8 fours and 7 sixes! Churchland was supported well by Weerakkody (23) as the Tigers reached 5/167 at the conclusion of their 20 overs. In reply, the Campbelltown-Camden innings never got going, with a brilliant all round performance from all the bowlers restricting the opposition to just 4/99 at the conclusion of the 20 overs.
The two much needed victories saw the Tigers finish 4th on the ladder and sneak into the semi-finals, where they will take on Gordon Blue on Sunday at Cahill Park.
