Allianz Stadium to host four NRL Sunday derbies

The Sydney Roosters will host four Sunday afternoon derbies at Allianz Stadium against the Newcastle Knights, Manly Sea Eagles, Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra Dragons as part of the 2018 NRL Telstra Premiership.

The Tricolours will begin their home season against old rivals the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs on March 16 in the first of just two Friday night fixtures at the ground.

They will then take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs on April 12 ahead of a blockbuster Anzac Day clash on April 25, which this year will be hosted by the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Last year, a new attendance record was set for the Anzac Day Cup with 40,864 fans turning out to watch Mitchell Pearce secure a thrilling 13-12 extra time win. The clash at Allianz Stadium enters its 16th year in 2018 and promises to be one of the highlights on the NRL calendar.

Other matchups for the Roosters include a round four Easter weekend clash against the New Zeleand Warriors on March 31, a round 16 fixture against premiers the Melbourne Storm on June 29 and a round 24 game against the Brisbane Broncos on August 25.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said the NRL had worked with the broadcasters to ensure a new-look draw aimed at benefitting fans, clubs and players.

"We have more control of the schedule for 2018 and we believe we have been able to deliver some wins for the everyone, but particularly the fans," Mr Greenberg said.

"There are more blockbusters in family-friendly timeslots. And there will be at least one Sydney match for fans to attend nearly every Sunday during the season.”
