THE NEW SCG HILL GRANDSTAND

The SCG's new Hill Grandstand will provide patrons with magnificent seats and facilities located over three spacious levels.

Due for completion end of 2008, the Hill Grandstand will complete the evolution of the Hill from a sand hill, to a terrace and ultimately to a superb new spectator stand.  It will also meet the Trust's objectives of providing world class spectator facilities and increased spectator capacity.

Construction is now well underway and approximately 3,000 new concourse seats will be available for the 2007-08 Intenrational Cricket Season.  Temporary spectator facilities will be installed nearby for fans, and entry and egress will be via the Churchill Stand concourse.

When the Hill Grandstand is completed, the SCG's capacity will increase to approximately 46,000 intensifying the Ground's great spectator atmosphere.

The Hill Grandstand will feature state-of-the-art facilities and amenities including dining and function rooms, a large food court area, escalator entry and expansive views towards Sydney's CBD.

The Trust's ongoing commitment to the environment is also highlighted in the overall project.

The Hill Grandstand roof will comprise materials which will allow natural light while a large water tank will capture rain water run-off which will be used to flush toilets.

This environmental measure is in addition to the use of bore water which irrigates the SCG and Sydney Football Stadium playing surfaces.

Additionally, the Trust has replaced the head frames of the light towers which will provide state-of-the-art on-field lighting for players, spectators and television viewers reducing energy consumption by 30 per cent.

The two light towers, which were located on the old Hill, were removed last year as part of the new Hill Grandstand project and will be replaced by two refurbished towers which will be located on top of lift shafts within the new stand.
