Welcome!

Season 2007/08 is already well underway and it marks an adventurous change in direction for the Club. You would all be well aware of the merger with the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust that has seen our evolvement as the Sydney Cricket Club.  We take as part of the new Club, the history of the Balmain Club, the players from previous seasons and most importantly, 110 years of tiger tradition.

There are exciting times ahead as we introduce a concept that Sydney cricket has not seen before.  Melbourne has the Melbourne Cricket Club and London has the Marylebone Cricket Club.  Now we have the Sydney Cricket Club.

It is our intention that as we build our resources we will stand alongside those two great Clubs and others who hold dear the best traditions of the game.

Personally I am most pleased to be aboard. The challenge of consolidating the Club in this brave new world is an exciting one.

Of course any venture like this will only succeed if we have enough members who embrace the Club and its objectives.

We have to build a belief that we are members of the best cricket club in Sydney. This applies not only to our on field performance but also in the way we present ourselves and our Club at all levels.

So the challenge is there for all of us. You can help by involving yourself in the Club as a whole. I can assure you that you will gain a great deal of satisfaction by being able to be part of the Club’s development as the major player in the world of cricket.

Coming Events

There are 2 important matches in the calendar scheduled for Thursday 7 February, 2007.

  • One is the Women’s One Day International, Australia v England at Drummoyne Oval.  To host such an important match will require a good deal of work from the Club so I will be seeking assistance from some Club volunteers to ensure everything runs smoothly on the day. If you are able to help I’d be happy to hear from you.

  • On the same day we are playing a match against a touring English team at Alan Davidson Oval, St. Peters.  They are the Club Cricket Conference team and we will be putting a team together to represent the Club in the match. If you want to play in the match can you please advise me of your availability as soon as possible so we can finalise our team.
Playing Subscriptions

The Club has many financial commitments to meet and our financial lifeblood is the revenue we obtain from player subscriptions.  This season we have been able to set the subscriptions at a very reasonable level.  The fee structure is as follows:-

Seniors

Playing Subscriptions             -           $295

Students

Playing Subscriptions             -           $195

We need to have these subscriptions paid NOW.  If you haven’t done so already I’ll be chasing you personally to get them paid.

Tigers – Did you know?
  • In a poll conducted by Animal Planet, the tiger was voted the world’s favourite animal, narrowly beating man’s best friend, the dog.
  • Animal Planet stated that people can relate to the tiger. It is seen as fierce and commanding on the outside, yet noble and discerning on the inside? Tigers are highly adaptable, territorial and generally solitary.

Does this sound like any of your teammates?

Sparke’s 170 Run Feast

Congratulations to Tim Sparke, Tiger’s 1st Grade batsman, who crafted a superb knock of 170 on Saturday against Randwick Petersham. Excellent work for Sparkey who has been working very hard of late and definitely must be a motivator for other batsman wishing to progress up the ranks.

Russell Arnold at Training

As many of you now know, we have recently secured the services of former Sri Lankan Test and One Day batsman Russel Arnold, who showed us a touch of class and hopefully what is to come on Saturday by carving out a 50 in his debut match. Please introduce yourself to him at training and make him feel welcome as we are very appreciative of his services.

The Tiger Cup

In the first of our “Out” matches a band of current and past tigers proved too good for A St. George D.C.C. XI at the SCG on December 20.

Star turns with bat were Jon Moss, Mark Atkinson and Greg Hayne while Simon Cook turned back the clock in capturing 2/11 off his 6 overs.  The successful team is pictured below.
