Mr Basil Sellers, AM
|
Thanks to the generosity of businessman and philanthropist Basil Sellers, the Sydney Cricket Ground and Sydney Football Stadium will become the home to ten of
Australia’s finest sportsmen in a series of life-size sculptures.
To be known as the “Basil Sellers Sports Sculpture Project”, a small number of select sculptors resident in NSW are being commissioned to produce sculptures which will capture the essence of the subject. The image will be characteristic; it will not necessarily be the subject at full stretch or on the field of play.
The ten subjects will consist of four cricketers, two rugby union players, two rugby league and two AFL players. The two AFL players will have played for the Sydney Swans since their relocation to the SCG. The other eight will have played for NSW and Australia.
The Project continues the SCG Trust’s rich links to Australian sports history from its beginnings in the 19th century.
